Piece coordination

The purposeful placement of one's forces, subordinated to a definite plan. Piece coordination is one of the most important strategic principles of the chess struggle. It begins already in the opening, although at this stage it mainly pursues the goals of a harmonious development of pieces, and acquires more concrete outlines in the middlegame, when a side's plans become clearly defined.
