Minority attack

A typical strategic plan whose goal is to provoke a weakening of the opponent's position, predominantly on the queenside flank.

In practice, the minority attack is most often carried out by advancing White's "a" and "b" pawns against Black's pawn chain a7 (a6)-b7-c6-d5. If successful, such an advance leads to the creation of a weak pawn for Black and a breakthrough of White's pieces into the opponent's camp.
